Woodturning a rewarding craft

Woodturning is a rewarding craft that combines creativity, precision and a deep appreciation for natural materials. Using a lathe, woodturners shape spinning blocks of wood into everything from elegant verandah posts to finely detailed gable finials.

One of the things that makes woodturning so enjoyable is the immediacy of the process. Unlike other forms of woodworking, where results can take days or even weeks, turning a piece on the lathe can yield visible progress within minutes. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching a blank piece of timber transform into a smooth, symmetrical object under your hands. The rhythmic hum of the lathe, the scent of freshly cut timber, and the ever-changing grain patterns all add to the sensory experience.

This is something I learnt from my father from a young age. Aside from being a practical skill, woodturning is also a form of artistic expression. Every piece of timber has its own character, and working with it can feel like a collaboration between maker and material. I am blessed to have been given this wonderful opportunity to learn this craft. My father found woodturning very relaxing and I too feel the same way.

If you need any woodturning done, we are happy to assist in any way we can.
